System/Robotics Software Engineer
Role:
Designing and implementing software to combine motor control, sensors, and AI computing processors into a unified framework to power an intelligent robot companion for children. Own the system/robotics software stack and eventually build a team of systems/robotics engineers around you.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop a robot control system that intelligently handles inputs from a wide variety of user-perception and interaction modules touching a wide variety of components such as control systems, embedded development and AI
- Work closely with mechanical engineers to build the protocol to seamlessly communicate with the motors and actuators to produce complex robot motion
- Work closely with AI engineers to select the right HW & SW components to enable efficient use of sensors
- Work closely with AI engineers to optimize the AI algorithms in the embedded environment
Qualifications:
- Ability to work in a team in a startup environment – mission driven, fast paced, iterative
- Strong passion for building intelligent and efficient systems
- Hands-on experience developing, testing and debugging complex interactive robot software
- Ability to write performant and maintainable code in general
- Experience building autonomous interactive systems equipped with a wide array of sensors
- Experience building robust motor control systems
- A builder who can balance cutting edge techniques from AI and human-robot interaction research with proven methods to create lifelike interactive agents
- Experience shipping a commercial physical hardware device is a plus
- Experience developing robots that interact with people in real-world environments is a plus
- Experience in the field of social or socially assistive robotics is a plus
- Experience with ROS and/or equivalent robotics frameworks
- MS/PhD (or equivalent experience) with focus in HRI/HCI, Robotics is a plus
